Being morbidly overweight is not easy to live with. The scars are minimal and the healing process quick – there is no blood loss or the use of numerous tubes. Patients need to stay in the hospital post-surgery for 2-3 days. They have prescribed a liquid protein diet for a few weeks before they are called back in for an evaluation. By this time they will be back on their feet.

Post the operation patients are offered weight management services inclusive of diet and nutrition care as well as rehabilitation and physiotherapy where necessary. A multidisciplinary team of specialists take care of all the bariatric patients. There are 5 bariatric suites which are unique and custom-designed for the overweight patient are available. Motorized beds, broader doors, strong furniture with weight-bearing abilities of up to 250 kgs and even toilets that are ground-mounted are available in these suites. Special diagnostic needs of MRI and CT have been provided, with extra care being taken to be able to accommodate heavy patients.
