Parkinson’s awareness workshop

07 Jan 2018

Parkinson's disease causes physical stiffness and imbalance due to the nerve cell damage in the central nervous system. The root cause of its occurrence is an underproduction of the substance called dopamine. Dopamine is what maintains the balance between these two areas of the brain - the substantia nigra and corpus striatum in order to keep control over voluntary actions. Some of the prominent symptoms of Parkinson’s are anxiety, depression and even dementia. These symptoms also include problems such as intense sweating, skin problems, and male erectile dysfunction.

India is believed to have approx. 6 lac Parkinson patients and 50000 new patients have diagnosed with this condition annually. Although Parkinson’s disease was discovered almost a century ago, it is still increasing at an astonishing rate in India due to lack of awareness about the disease and the treatment options available for the same.

Unpreventable at the moment, Parkinson’s is at the top of the research list in the entire healthcare sector in the world.

The workshop was conducted on the same by Aster CMI Hospital to spread awareness about the Parkinson’s disease and the treatment options available for the same. Aster CMI has also launched its exclusive clinic for Parkinson’s and other movement disorders.
