History

The term "Psychiatry" comes from the Ancient Greek word psykhe means "soul", and -iatry means "medical treatment" from Gk. iatrikos ``medical" from iasthai which means "to heal".

A German physician Johann Christian Reil in 1808 coined the term Psychiatry which literally means' the medical treatment of the soul'.
