Are you a Candidate for Plastic Surgery ?

11 Sep 2017

Before deciding to get Plastic Surgery done , you should realize which category do you fall in. Many people get Plastic Surgery done for many reasons , but mainly they are related to : Corrective, Restorative or Cosmetic Surgery!!!!!. Let us analyse these options:

Corrective: a good example would be correcting a crooked nose, but at the same time removing the obstruction inside. Although, cosmetically the patient will look much nicer as he has just had a Rhinoplasty/”Nose Job”, but technically we have helped him breathe better and corrected the functioning of his nose from inside.

Restorative: let’s look at a hand/ limb disfigured due to an accident or a person tragically scarred by a burn accident or a woman who has lost her breast due to breast cancer. In the first case, we attempt at first restoring the person’s hand function so he can eat his food and write. In the second case, we try to remove as many scars as possible and if needed put skin from one area of the body to another. In the third case, it is possible to recreate a new breast for the woman using her own body tissue or silicone breast implants, just like the famous Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie after intentionally deciding to remove her breasts with the fear of getting breast cancer. All of these stated examples are a combination of restoration and cosmesis. Our ultimate aim is not only to restore function , but same time make that part of the person’s body look as cosmetically appealing as possible.

 Cosmetic:
this means that your purpose is to look thinner or younger or look more attractive. Examples of this can be Breast lifts, breast reductions, body contouring with liposuction, facelifts ,facial rejuvenation procedures, etc….There are endless way’s to feel more good about yourself, cosmetic surgery being one….hoping in the end you are left feeling confident about yourself and your self confidence boosted. No matter what you choose, remember to choose the right option with the help of your surgeon….. and at the same time…. Remember, to know when to Stop!!!
