Stereotactic Biopsy

A stereotactic biopsy is a surgical procedure where a thin needle is inserted into the brain after a navigational protocol image and extract an abnormal suspicious lesion for osteopathology studies. Small piece of tissue to examine under a microscope.


Methods
  • Frame-based: Generally done as a daycare procedure, under local anaesthesia.
  • Frameless: Utilises Neuronavigation principle, needs general anaesthesia
Indications
  • Small and deep seated lesions
  • Lesions in high-risk anaesthesia cases or candidates
  • Lesions in a surgical poor candidate
  • Multiple lesions and CSF Rhinorrhea
